Air Force asks industry to help E-3s comply with Open Mission Standard

The Air Force, about halfway into its E-3 Airborne Warning and Control System upgrade program, wants to bring the platform up to speed with open mission systems standards. Requirements for Block 40/45, the newest software now being installed onto the AWACS fleet, were set before the first version of the Open Mission Standard was released in 2014, Air Force spokesman Ben Newell told Inside the Air Force in a Jan. 9 email.
