CSRA prepares to roll out milCloud 2.0

CSRA said today it plans to launch milCloud 2.0, the cloud infrastructure program it won last year, in two locations on Feb. 1.

Last summer, the Defense Information Systems Agency awarded CSRA a contract worth up to $500 million for the first phase of the program, which is intended to provide cloud infrastructure at DOD locations.

Donald Robinson, the chief technology officer of CSRA's defense group, told reporters today at CSRA's Falls Church, VA, headquarters the company is targeting Feb. 1 to have the effort up and running.

The two initial locations are Maxwell Air Force Base in Alabama and Tinker Air Force Base in Oklahoma. George Batsakis, CSRA's chief growth officer, told reporters at the same event the company will expand the number of sites as demand increases.

"The plan is to have global presence in multiple locations," he said.

Meanwhile, the Pentagon has shaken up its cloud executive steering group, which is tasked with accelerating DOD's adoption of cloud technologies.

Robinson said CSRA has been engaged with the group and has shared its lessons learned from milCloud.

"I think the steering group is being thoughtful in how they incorporate the feedback, and we've seen some evolution in what their direction is," he said.

Asked whether CSRA would participate in a potential competition spurred by the steering group's work, Robinson said the company would be well positioned.

"If they come out with an acquisition, absolutely we would be looking at that," he said. "I think there's a lot that we could bring to that."
