Army places M113 upgrade plan on hold

The Army has postponed "indefinitely" its plan to upgrade the M113 armored personnel carrier for echelons above brigade -- an approach billed as an interim solution to the mobility and survivability limitations of the Vietnam-era vehicle. Members of the National Advanced Mobility Consortium were notified May 21 of the postponement of a request for prototype proposals, the release of which had been delayed repeatedly.
