Pentagon eyeing new list of weapon systems for rapid prototyping

The Pentagon is considering several weapon systems for new rapid prototyping authority granted by Congress, including the Air Force's hypersonic conventional strike capability, F-22 aircraft modernization and two key Navy missile programs, Inside Defense has learned. The new authority, which complies with Section 804 of the Fiscal Year 2016 National Defense Authorization Act, provides DOD a pathway to streamline rapid prototyping for "middle tier capabilities" that can be fielded within five years or use proven technologies to upgrade existing systems...
