USAF may grow BACN-enabled fleets, mulling future comms approach

The Air Force is fleshing out plans to spread Battlefield Airborne Communications Node-enabled aircraft around the globe as lawmakers aim to address constant demand for those platforms. Congressional authorizers added $105 million for a fifth EQ-4B in the fiscal year 2019 defense policy bill released this week. House appropriators matched that in their version of the FY-19 spending legislation, while the Senate Appropriations Committee offered $100 million.
