AFRL chief aims to break down research stovepipes for faster development

Compressing the research and development pipeline could help mature and field new technologies faster, the head of the Air Force Research Laboratory said this week. AFRL commander Maj. Gen. Bill Cooley told Inside Defense at a Sept. 5 Defense News conference the lab wants to eliminate its stovepipes of basic research, applied research and advanced technology development for initiatives where streamlining makes sense.
