The week ahead

The House returns in session this week to consider the fiscal year 2019 defense spending “minibus” and senior Pentagon officials are scheduled to speak at congressional hearings and conferences around the Washington area.

Tuesday

The Modern Day Marine Conference begins in Quantico, VA, and runs through Thursday, featuring senior defense officials.

The Senate Armed Services Committee holds a confirmation hearing for Gen. Robert Abrams to become the chief U.S. commander on the Korean Peninsula, and for Vice Adm. Craig Faller to lead U.S. Southern Command.

Assistant Secretary of State for International Security and Nonproliferation Christopher Ford speaks at the Stimson Center on "transforming foreign assistance into a global, agile, threat-prioritized, and responsive nonproliferation programming tool."

Wednesday

The Air Force Association hosts a breakfast in Washington on multidomain command and control with the Air Force's director of current operations.

Air Force Secretary Heather Wilson speaks at the National Press Club Headliners Luncheon in Washington.

The Senate Armed Services cybersecurity and personnel subcommittees will hold a joint hearing with senior Pentagon officials on cyber operational readiness.

The House Armed Services Committee holds a hearing with outside experts on the impact of national defense on the economy, diplomacy and the international order.

The House Armed Services oversight and investigations subcommittee holds a hearing on the U.S. strategy in Syria.

House Armed Services Committee Ranking Member Adam Smith (D-WA) is scheduled to speak at the Center for Strategic and International Studies about strengthening U.S. foreign assistance tools.

Thursday

The House Armed Services military personnel subcommittee holds a hearing on military review board agencies.

The Kalaris Intelligence Conference begins in Washington featuring officials from the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency and the National Geospatial Intelligence Agency.

Friday

The Air Force Association hosts a Washington breakfast on space resiliency with the vice chief of Air Force Space Command.

The House Armed Services seapower and projection forces subcommittee holds a hearing on C-130 mishaps and other airlift challenges.
