Naval Sea Systems Command plans to issue requests for information to industry for a large surface combatant in the coming days.

NAVSEA chief Vice Adm. Thomas Moore told the Surface Navy Association's annual symposium today that his office would seek information from industry after spending the last six to seven months on the requirements.

"We had some initial discussion with our two surface combatant shipbuilders earlier this week," Moore said.

"We've got a set of RFIs, requests for information, that we're going to be pushing out here probably within the next few days to industry to kind of really start that process, and kind of put some proverbial meat on the bones," he added.

Moore said NAVSEA has started to collaborate with Surface Warfare Director (N96) Rear Adm. Ronald Boxall.

An updated maritime strategy released in December set 2023 as the Navy's target date to award a contract for a large surface combatant.
