Orolia acquires Skydel Solutions

Orolia, which specializes in resilient positioning, navigation and timing technology, said today it has acquired Skydel Solutions, a Canadian GPS/GNSS signal simulation company.

The acquisition, Orolia said, will allow it to offer "more diverse Resilient PNT solutions with new sophisticated testing and simulation protocols, additional customized signals and superior vulnerability assessments for military and commercial applications where GNSS failure is not an option."

In an interview with Inside Defense, Rohit Braggs, chief operating officer of Orolia, said the company saw a unique capability in Skydel to "combine innovative algorithms with off-the-shelf hardware" to simulate different scenarios.

Braggs said about 55 percent to 60 percent of Orolia's work is with the U.S. government. The company, which is based in France, is in the process of seeking Committee on Foreign Investment in the United States approval to create a separate U.S. entity that will be known as Orolia Defense Systems, according to Braggs.

That proxy organization, he said, would allow Orolia to access more of the U.S. market, including classified work.
