The Army has chosen five companies to begin a design integration study for a 30 mm cannon on the Stryker vehicle.

The service last night announced General Dynamics Land Systems, Kollsman, Leonardo DRS, Raytheon and Pratt & Miller will begin the first phase of the Stryker Medium Caliber Weapon System program, each awarded contracts of up to $150,000.

The companies will integrate a government-provided XM813 30 mm cannon onto a Double-V Hull A1 infantry carrier hull while conducting a design study for integrating their own medium-caliber weapon system to build a production-representative vehicle.

Once that is complete, the Army this fall will release a draft request for proposal for a production contract for an MCWS integrated on a DVH A1.

The service plans to buy three brigade sets, 83 vehicles each, of the final system and to equip the first brigade in fiscal year 2022.
