Leonardo DRS growth driven by land systems and Navy electronics work

Leonardo DRS is seeing increased work in two major areas -- land systems and Navy electronics, according to the company's chief executive.

Bill Lynn told Inside Defense earlier this month all of the company's land systems product lines have seen improvements. He particularly pointed to the contractor's vehicle protection and counter-UAS work.

"We've also had significant growth in the Navy," he said, noting the company has repositioned its naval electronics business.

"I think the Army sensor business and the protection, the counter-UAS are particularly promising in terms of additional growth as well as the naval electronics," Lynn added.

Meanwhile, Lynn said he remains optimistic Congress will eventually approve a larger defense budget for the next fiscal year but said it "has the potential to be a drawn-out process."

"I think we'll get there eventually," he said. "Even if we don’t get there quickly, we will get there."

Still, Lynn said he expects a continuing resolution to start the fiscal year.

"As long as the CR isn't overly long . . . that's a fairly stable result," he said. "It's when you get really long CRs that you start to worry about the stability of the programs."
