Navy publishes final FFG(X) RFP

The Navy yesterday published the final request for proposals to design and build the service's next-generation frigate, FFG(X).

While the competition will be "full and open," the service has awarded contracts to five major shipbuilders to mature their designs in advance of the RFP and anticipated contract award this time next year.

Those shipbuilders are Lockheed Martin, Austal USA, Fincantieri Marinette Marine, General Dynamics Bath Iron Works and Huntington Ingalls Industries.

Lockheed last month announced it would not submit an independent bid.
