Lawmakers approve $160M Next-Gen OPIR reprogramming request

Congress has approved the Air Force's request to reprogram $160 million to support the Next-Generation Overhead Persistent Infrared program's accelerated schedule, which aims to deliver an initial satellite by 2025. The approval is significant for the program, which was underfunded by $744 million after the service adopted a new acquisition strategy in late 2017 that would deliver the initial capability five years faster than anticipated.
