Navy awards GD Electric Boat $22 billion modification for Virginia Block V multiyear contract

The Navy today announced a $22.2 billion contract modification to General Dynamics Electric Boat for Block V of the Virginia-class submarine program. According to Navy acquisition chief Hondo Geurts, the modification is for nine submarines, with the option to build a 10th boat. All nine submarines will feature the acoustic superiority alterations, while all but the first submarine will include the new Virginia Payload Module.
