Acting Navy Secretary Thomas Modly outlined in a new memorandum the service's near-term goals to make the aircraft carrier Gerald Ford (CVN-78) ready to deploy as quickly as possible.

Modly also announced the service will hold a summit with "every stakeholder in government and industry" on Jan. 9, 2020.

The secretary writes that he will receive monthly status updates on the warship alongside the chief of naval operations and the Navy acquisition executive. The document, dated Dec. 20, is the third in a series of weekly memos Modly has been distributing since becoming the acting Navy secretary.
