New cost models show NNSA underfunded early phase of GBSD's W87-1 warhead program

The National Nuclear Security Administration didn't provide enough funding to support the initial portion of the Ground Based Strategic Deterrent's warhead modification program -- resulting in a larger fiscal year 2021 budget request than expected. NNSA's FY-21 funding proposal asks Congress to appropriate more than $540 million for the W87-1 warhead effort -- nearly $180 million more than what the agency projected requesting in its FY-20 budget documents.
