Army plans to make initial award for TITAN in FY-21

The Army is planning to make the first award for the Tactical Intelligence Targeting Access Node in the first quarter of fiscal year 2021, according to a service official.

TITAN, part of the Battle Management Command and Communication system, is a mobile intelligence ground station architecture that will provide access to low-earth orbit satellites.

The system will support situational awareness, leverage content delivery network technology and reduce the footprint of existing radio frequency receiving and transmitting equipment.

Col. Thomas Nguyen, a project manager with the Program Executive Office for Intelligence, Electronic Warfare and Sensors, told Inside Defense via email earlier this month that industry members are now producing prototypes for the system’s design following a solicitation released April 1.

"TITAN capabilities, prototype development and assessments are planned to be used in upcoming exercises and experimentation in FY-22, incorporating soldier touchpoints to inform TITAN throughout its development," Nguyen said.

Artificial intelligence algorithms "could play a role in TITAN," he said.

Existing technologies that could support TITAN include AI and machine learning algorithms; cloud gateways; and integrated command, control, computers, communications, cyber, intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance modular open suite of standards solutions.

The system will replace the current Tactical Intelligence Ground Station, Operational Intelligence Ground Station, Advanced Miniaturized Data Acquisition System Dissemination Vehicle and Remote Ground Terminal.

The Army will award an other transaction agreement for TITAN and the system will be delivered to the field in the FY-23 and FY-24 timeframe, Nguyen said.
