Huntington Ingalls Industries said today it has made a strategic equity investment in Sea Machines Robotics, a Boston-based company specializing in advanced software for unmanned surface vessels.

Sea Machines, which was founded in 2015, has provided autonomy software to the commercial, recreational and government markets, HII said.

"Their commercial, off-the-shelf technology can support remote-controlled or fully autonomous command of vessels," the company added.

The deal is HII's latest investment into unmanned maritime systems. The company earlier this year acquired Hydroid.
