DOD watchdog says mismanaged additive manufacturing increased cyber risks

The Defense Department has not consistently secured or managed its additive manufacturing systems or design data, increasing cybersecurity risks and potentially allowing adversaries to steal design technology, according to a recent DOD inspector general's report. The Pentagon uses additive manufacturing systems to build three-dimensional physical prototypes and production parts like body armor and parts for tactical vehicles.
