Lawmakers see opportunities for shipyard funding outside of infrastructure bill

Despite unsuccessful efforts to include $25 billion in shipyard infrastructure funding in the Senate's bipartisan infrastructure bill, lawmakers who are pushing for shipyard improvements still see an opportunity to fund that effort this year. The Navy is in the midst of a 20-year, $21 billion Shipyard Infrastructure Optimization Program to improve the infrastructure in its four public shipyards. The Navy launched the SIOP in 2018.
