Omnibus bill funds 11 ships at $31.9B

House and Senate appropriators are providing $31.9 billion for the Navy to buy 11 ships in 2023, the same number as congressional authorizers but falling short by $600 million of the amount the policy bill provides. While both fiscal year 2023 authorization and appropriations bills agree on 11 ships, authorizers allowed $32.6 billion for the Navy’s shipbuilding account and appropriators provided $31.9 billion.
