Gates Recommends Admiral to Head EUCOM, Air Force General to Lead SOUTHCOM

Defense Secretary Robert Gates is recommending the first-ever nominations of a Navy admiral to head U.S. European Command and an Air Force general to lead U.S. Southern Command, he said today. Gates also said he is backing the reappointment of the Pentagon's top two military officers for a second two-year term and told reporters he plans to change the leadership at U.S. Pacific Command.
