After Close Votes, Senate Committee Snubs White House on F-22s, F-35 Engine

Senate Armed Services Committee members today included language in their version of the fiscal year 2010 defense authorization bill to continue the production of F-22 fighter planes above levels requested by the Obama administration. The bill includes $1.75 billion to buy seven additional jets. Capping the production of the fifth-generation fighters at 187 has become a cornerstone in Defense Secretary Robert Gates' plans to boost funding for capabilities with a role in fighting irregular enemies.
