New Pentagon Effort To Train, Equip Eastern European Forces For Afghan Operations

The Defense Department earlier this month launched two new security assistance programs worth nearly $14 million to provide "mission-critical" equipment and training to Eastern European military forces from seven nations scheduled to deploy to Afghanistan within the next year, according to a Pentagon spokesman. On June 11, the Defense Department kicked off a program to provide Romanian special operations forces $11 million worth of equipment, including radios, night-vision gear, humvees, small arms and ammunition to be used in pre-deployment training...
