Army's Urgent Need For Small Drones Is Big Win For California Company

An urgent request to procure 180 Puma unmanned aircraft systems for operations in Afghanistan in July generated a $65.5 million order for Puma's California-based creator AeroVironment, the company's largest-ever order. AeroVironment, which makes three small unmanned aircraft systems operating in Afghanistan -- Puma, Raven and Wasp -- said it had secured "three or four orders" for Puma from the Army over the past year after it introduced the system's digital version last August at a major unmanned systems conference, according...
