Lockheed Martin today confirmed its venture capital arm has invested in Main Sequence Ventures, the VC firm managing the Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organization Innovation Fund.

The investment marks the organization's first international fund investment.

Main Sequence Ventures said it closed the fund at $232 million, which includes investments from CSIRO, the Australian government, Singapore government fund Temasek, the University of Melbourne and Lockheed.

Main Sequence said it "has already made 12 investments in companies creating new industries such as satellite sensor networks, autonomous vehicles, quantum computing and digital healthcare."

Chris Moran, who heads Lockheed Martin Ventures, said in a statement the company's investment is part of a "commitment to enabling the growth and development of Australian technologists and entrepreneurs."

Main Sequence said "the investments made so far have exploited the full potential of public and private sector."

"Some have been actively supported by Main Sequence as they spin-out of research organizations," it added. "Others have been independent companies 'supercharged' with unique research accessed through collaborations with research organizations."
