9th Circuit Court to Weigh Merits of Temporary Navy Sonar Halt

Defense Environment Alert -- Environmentalists and the Navy will soon argue before the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 9th Circuit whether a lower court was correct in enjoining the Navy from using mid-frequency active (MFA) sonar off southern California. The lower court found the Navy was likely violating environmental laws by, in part, failing to sufficiently mitigate the potential harmful effects sonar may have on marine mammals.
