Afghanistan Commander Offers Alternatives To Post-2016 Force Plan

Gen. John Campbell, head of Resolution Support Mission and U.S. Forces Afghanistan, told the Senate Armed Services Committee on Oct. 6 that events on the ground necessitate a change in the Obama administration's plan for a sustained presence in the country after 2016. He maintained that "a lot has happened" since President Obama established the withdrawal policy in 2014, including the rise of ISIL, and consequently Campbell has provided his chain of command with "options different from the current plan."...
