Allies Demand North Korea Dismantle Nuclear Program

U.S., Japanese and South Korean leaders over the weekend released a joint statement calling on North Korea to dismantle its nuclear weapons program and keep its commitments under a number of nonproliferation regimes. In the Oct. 26 document, President Bush, South Korean President Kim Dae-Jung and Japanese Prime Minister Junichiro Koizumi said the government in Pyongyang must terminate efforts to enrich uranium for such weapons promptly, and "in a verifiable manner."
