Appropriators Provide $50 Million for 'GPS Extension Program,' Want Navy in Charge

Congressional appropriators have recommended handing the Navy $50 million for a new Global Positioning System satellite navigation program that could usher in capability improvements in the areas of precision navigation and resistance to jamming by fiscal year 2010. The move followed concerns held by some on Capitol Hill over the Air Force's handling of the effort.
