Army Awards HIMARS Contract, Adds Funds for Program Acceleration

The Army late last month awarded Lockheed Martin Missiles and Fire Control a $65 million contract for the High Mobility Artillery Rocket System, a program the service recently decided to accelerate as part of the chief of staff's new plan for a lighter, faster force. The contract, awarded Dec. 22 by the Army Aviation and Missile Command, covers a 36-month "maturation" or engineering and manufacturing development phase.
