Army Budget to Grow to $111.8 Billion; Procurement Accounts to Swell

The president's budget request for fiscal year 2007 will include an increase in the Army's budget to $111.8 billion, up over last year's request of about $100 billion, according to a source familiar with the request. That increase over last year's budget is far greater than those projected for the budgets of the Navy and Air Force, which are expected to grow by only 4 percent to 5 percent, according to a congressional staff member.
