Army Equipment Shortage in Five-Year Plan Shrinks from $56 Billion to $33 Billion

The Army says it faces a $33 billion equipment shortfall across its five-year investment plan, far less than the $56 billion shortfall service leaders said the ground force faced at the outset of hostilities against Afghanistan in 2001. Lt. Gen. Stephen Speakes, the Army's deputy chief of staff for programs, told the House Armed Services air and land forces subcommittee that "the remaining bill to put the right equipment in the force" comes to $33 billion across its fiscal years...
