Army targets FY-17 for production contract award for Abrams upgrades

The Army aims to issue a contract for the next configuration of the Abrams tank in the third quarter of fiscal year 2017 after an ongoing pilot program is completed, according to a service spokeswoman. Ashley Givens said in a Dec. 5 email that the Abrams M1A2 System Enhancement Program version 3 would contain Engineering Change Proposal 1A upgrades, which are meant to "restore" space, weight, power and cooling capabilities.
