Defense Acquisition Board Clears LHA(R) Ship Program for Next Development Phase

The Defense Acquisition Board granted milestone B approval today for the Navy's new class of large-deck amphibious assault ships, clearing the way for the start of the next development phase, according to a Navy source. The LHA Replacement, now called the LHA-6 class, will be moved into the system development and demonstration phase, allowing the Navy to award a detail design and construction contract.
