DHS Announces Final Security Rules for U.S. Ports and Waterways

Homeland Security Secretary Tom Ridge yesterday announced the publication of final maritime industry security rules crafted to guard the nation's waterways and ports from terrorist attack. The rules, published by the Coast Guard, require companies that transport cargo and passengers and run offshore oil platforms to conduct security assessments of their operations. These assessments will form the basis of their security plans, which they must submit to the Coast Guard for approval, according to a Department of Homeland Security statement...
