DOD Eyes FY-09 War Spending Request as Costs Reach $12 Billion Per Month

Top Pentagon budget and program officials have directed the military services to prepare spending proposals to finance Iraq and Afghanistan operations as well as other "global war on terror" activities through fiscal year 2009, which will span the last days of the Bush administration and the early months of the next administration. This directive comes as a new report on war costs by the nonpartisan Congressional Research Service calculates the cost for such operations has climbed sharply to $12 billion...
