DOD Proposes New Guidelines for Domestic Use of the Military (Updated)

Dec. 4, 2008 -- The Defense Department has proposed a new rule that would establish new policies governing the employment of federal military forces during domestic crises. The Pentagon's proposed language would "supplement" section 375 of Title 10, U.S. Code, according to a note published in the Federal Register today. The section prohibits military forces from direct participation in law-enforcement operations, including searches, seizures and arrests.
