DOD Restructuring Maintains Same Number of Environmental Staff

Defense Environment Alert -- Despite a recent restructuring, Defense Department officials say they will maintain their staff of 22 career employees in DOD's environment office, and they believe the office is sufficiently staffed to provide proper oversight. A 15 percent reduction in the installations and environment office since 1999 was accomplished through attrition and the elimination of political positions when the previously separate installations and environment offices merged under the current Bush administration.
