DOD Systems Engineering Chief: Open Architecture Should Not Be Mandated

Although open architecture helps the Defense Department increase competition and ward off obsolescence, its use should not be mandated, according to the Pentagon's systems engineering chief. Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense for Systems Engineering Stephen Welby said he is not a "fan" of mandating the inclusion of open architecture in systems.
