DOD's Chief Information Officer Warns of Online Data Loss, Again

Defense Department Chief Information Officer John Grimes has once again urged defense officials to improve the protection of sensitive information hosted on military servers connected to the Internet. In a Sept. 22 memo to defense leaders, Grimes singled out information systems using the file transfer protocol (FTP), peer-to-peer (P2P) configurations and other "inherently insecure" data transfer protocols as particularly vulnerable to giving away sensitive-but-unclassified military information to unauthorized users surfing the Web.
