DOE Eyes Accelerated Environmental Cleanup At Savannah River Site

The Energy Department, Environmental Protection Agency and South Carolina officials have agreed to accelerate environmental cleanup efforts at the Savannah River Site, a nuclear weapons facility in that state, DOE announced today. The parties to the agreement have decided to complete cleanup work at the DOE site by 2025. With $216 million in funding, the work will be performed under the auspices of the department's Environmental Management Accelerated Cleanup Program, an effort to identify and address the worst environmental hazards...
