GAO: Plan Needed for C-17 Production Line Shutdown

The Air Force should begin budgeting for the eventual shutdown of the C-17 aircraft production line, estimated to cost up to $1 billion, even though two upcoming Defense Department studies could attest to increased demand for the planes, according to a new Government Accountability Office report. Work on the Globemaster III aircraft at the Long Beach, CA, plant is scheduled to end in September 2010, but some elements of the production chain are expected to come to a halt earlier...
