GAO sees progress in Pentagon acquisition system, but leery of future

The Government Accountability Office says it is encouraged by the progress the Pentagon has made managing cost growth and schedule delays in its $1.8 trillion portfolio of major acquisition programs, but warns that many programs are proceeding without "fundamental knowledge" or oversight. GAO, in its annual report on major defense acquisition programs , says that "MDAPs have generally stabilized non-quantity-related cost growth and schedule growth but continue to proceed with limited knowledge and inconsistent software development approaches and cybersecurity practices."...
