GOP includes Mattis 'waiver' in short-term CR; Mikulski signals support

Republicans have crafted a short-term continuing resolution that includes language that would expedite the Senate's consideration of retired Marine Corps Gen. James Mattis to serve as President-elect Donald Trump's defense secretary. Congress has until Friday to pass the CR, a stop-gap spending measure that would last until April 28, or the federal government will shut down. Democrats seemed to signal their support for the CR, though some have indicated their unease with changing the law that bars former military officials...
