House Appropriators Cut Key Missile Defense and FCS Efforts, Boost JSF

The powerful House Appropriations defense subcommittee has slashed $139 million, or more than a third, of Pentagon-requested funding in fiscal year 2008 for a controversial plan to establish a U.S. missile defense capability in Europe. The panel also calls for cutting research and development funds for the Army's Future Combat System by $433.8 million, and boosted funding for the Joint Strike Fighter program by $200 million.
