House Democrats Ask Bush to Support a 'Verifiable' Fissile Material Cut-off Treaty

Fifteen House Democrats are asking President Bush to support negotiation of a Fissile Material Cut-off Treaty that includes an effective verification regime. In a letter sent yesterday to the White House, the group, which includes Reps. Ellen Tauscher (CA), Edward Markey (MA) and John Spratt (SC), says a verifiable FMCT "is a critical tool to protect the United States." The FMCT would be a legally binding international agreement to end production of highly enriched uranium and plutonium for nuclear weapons...
