House Democrats: War Against Iraq Could Cost Close to $200 Billion

The cost of war against Iraq to topple Saddam Hussein's regime in Baghdad could cost nearly $100 billion, if operations go as "smoothly" as those during the 1991 Persian Gulf War, but could jump to $200 billion if the conflict proves more difficult, according to a report released yesterday by the House Budget Committee Democrats. An "initial operation" involving 250,000 troops and lasting up to 60 days in Iraq would cost between $75 billion and $98 billion, the report concludes...
