Interior Dept. Issues Long-Awaited Migratory Bird Rule Exempting DOD Training Activities

Defense Environment Alert -- The Interior Department, in coordination with the Defense Department, last week issued a long-awaited final rule to effectively exempt DOD from the Migratory Bird Treaty Act (MBTA) for the incidental taking of migratory birds during readiness activities. Under the rule, released in the Feb. 28 Federal Register , the Pentagon is allowed incidental take of migratory birds, "with limitations, that result from military readiness activities."
