Key Committees Reject Environmental Exemptions for DOD

The House and Senate armed services committees have refused to include in defense authorization legislation a Defense Department proposal to ease hazardous waste and clean air law requirements for military training operations. The move raises serious doubts that the Pentagon's plan, which it says is necessary to ensure military readiness, will be enacted this year.
